Metabolism of Karma

Metabolism of Karma

Welcome,

In my previous two articles, I explored metabolising the moment and metabolism of memories.

The idea that unresolved tension, trauma, resentment, and emotional friction may actually be undigested experiences, stored energy from which the nutrients, the wisdom, are yet to be extracted.

The Buddhist notion of Karma is often misunderstood as fate, punishment, or “what you deserve.”

But Karma is perhaps better understood through the lens of intention and action.

Each action, thought, reaction, and emotional pattern plants a seed and leaves an impression within the body-mind system.

In Buddhist traditions, these impressions are sometimes referred to as Samskaras.

And over time, those impressions begin shaping how we perceive, react to, and participate in reality.

Karma is the fruiting of the seeds of the past.

The consequences, momentum, and residue of previous intentions.

Metabolising Karma

When we are effectively metabolising the moment we are in, we begin processing those old impressions so they no longer remain undigested within us as emotional heaviness, compulsive reactions, or unconscious cycles.

When we anchor into the body instead of becoming lost in the narrating mind, we begin “burning through” the energetic residue of the past rather than continuously recreating it.

And as we metabolise our more destructive or unconscious patterns from the past, we generate wisdom for the future.

The Dharma

Dharma can be understood as your right participation in life.
Your deeper alignment with reality.
Your true nature in motion.

To live our Dharma requires presence.

Because if we are not metabolising the moment we are in, we often begin operating on autopilot, reacting to life through old undigested memories, inherited conditioning, and unresolved Karma.

But when the body is clear, present, and integrated, our actions begin carrying less friction.

There is greater coherence.
More synchronicity.
A sense of being in the right place at the right time.

Almost as though life begins flowing through us rather than being forced by us.

By clearing our internal “digestive tract,” we remove the psychological and emotional residue that can obscure our deeper path.

So perhaps the cycle looks something like this:

Karma brings the meal to the table.
The consequences and residue of past intentions.

Metabolism is how we process the meal.
Using presence, sensation, awareness, and the body to digest the experience fully.

Dharma is how we put those nutrients to use. It is the deeper intelligence that ensures the wisdom, character, and strength we have extracted are expressed in service of our true nature and the world around us.

By focusing on the metabolism of the now, we begin actively transforming the past rather than unconsciously repeating it.

Perhaps our freedom is not found in escaping our experiences,

but in the metabolism of them.

Until the next time,

Peace and Love,

Alex
